It's funny how kids see food totally different to adults.
For me, a juicy burger pattie will have a lot of things in there, herbs, spices... but children prefer it to be really plain and Luke likes it really really lean and plain. So I do buy some from the butchers or super markets, those ready made lean beef patties... Does it sound like I'm making excused for not making my own patties?
But anyway, I never buy bread buns, so sometimes, a quick meal is not quick, when I only have the pattie, but no bun... This is one of those days. I defrosted the burger patties - and I found, there was just no bread left. I love making bread, but it does take at least 2 hours if not 3. Alright, enough excuses. The fact is, I wasn't really in the burger mood that day.
So this is the day some weird cooking ideas became reality.
Beef Burger Pattie in Passata Sauce with Potato Dumplings
Dumplings:
400g potatoes
150g plain flour
1 egg
pinch of salt and white pepper.
Sauce:
1 cloves of garlic
1 can of peeled roma tomatoes
1 heap tbsp of tomato paste
1 handful of chopped pasley
Olive oil
The children definitely liked the dumplings and the sauce. They were not so sure about the beef patties and thought would've been better if they were meat balls.
Improvising sometimes turns out great! I love this idea. Thanks for sharing!
